“Lord, what are you talking about?”
“Trust me, I am overwhelmed!”
“Life is just too much sometimes!”
The Lord’s response:
“No, Beth you are underwhelmed because if you were overwhelmed by My power you would not be in a constant state of anxiety and stress.”
“O.K. Lord point well taken. I am undeniably underwhelmed by You- The One who is Mighty to Save. The One who moves mountains. The One who dried up the sea for His people to walk over. The One who delivered a prophet from a lion’s den. The One who sent His Son to die in my place. Yeah. I get it Lord, I am underwhelmed by You and Your majesty.”
So today, even though I wasn’t feeling the suffocating emotions that often overwhelm me, the Lord still wanted to remind me that I was “overwhelmed” by the cares of life just a few days ago. You see, my son has autism and a deathly fear of needles, doctors, dentists, and pretty much anything outside his comfort zone. And this kid of mine needed a tooth pulled. The pediatric dentist was adamant that it needed to be under IV sedation which I thought was crazy since I knew I couldn’t afford it. I just wanted to tell my son to suck it up and take the Novocain and let’s get that tooth out! Actually I did try that method and it didn’t work. I knew this was going to cost more than what I have right now, and I felt so overwhelmed. Yep, I prayed and I prayed, and I wanted it to be resolved MY WAY. Keep it simple, go to a local oral surgeon, no IV, and I just needed God to provide the extra this month because finances weren’t looking good at all. Anyway, long story short, I prayed, sought wisdom (God promises wisdom to those who ask) and discovered God had another plan. He provided an oral surgeon (an hour away!) and the procedure was approved through our dental insurance. Christian had his tooth pulled, under IV sedation (with MUCH prompting to get that needle in) on the day before Christmas.
All of my worry and anxiety proved to be needless because God had this, and I just needed to get in alignment with His plan. What about you? Are you overwhelmed today by lack? Are you overwhelmed by work? Are you overwhelmed by the cares of this world? If so, you are NOT alone, and there is NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. But, just like me, the Holy Spirit wants you to hear the heart of God for your life: When you keep your eyes on the author and finisher of your faith, your anxiety will be replaced with the overwhelming presence of the Holy One of Israel! So this afternoon I thought I would just take a walk through the scriptures and remind myself just WHO it is I serve. I didn’t even make it passed the book of beginnings before feeling overwhelmed by the Great I Am!
The God Who Overwhelms Wants You to Know:
I Am a shield to you and your reward will be great (Gen. 15:1)!
I Am the Lord who brings you out & I have an inheritance for you to possess (Gen. 15:7)!
I Am God Almighty (Gen.17:1)!
I Am the God of your father Abraham & I am with you too (Gen. 26:24)!
I Am a promise maker & a promise keeper (Gen. 28:13)!
I Am with you and I will watch over you (Gen. 28:15)!
I Am the God of the anointed place where you made your vows to Me (Gen. 31:13)!
I Am God Almighty, and I will make you fruitful and I will multiply you (Gen. 35:11)!
I Am the God of Jacob & I called you out of slavery (Gen. 46:3)!
Wow! Who knew God had so much to say, right? Actually God still has a lot to say, but most of us have that dusty book (called a Bible) sitting on our shelves just waiting to be picked up and read, so we are spiritually deaf to God’s voice. But if you will open the pages of the word of God, He will come and overwhelm you! I Am is still I Am, and there is nothing too difficult for Him. I challenge you to open the pages of the Bible and mediate on His overwhelming majesty and power. Whatever mountains you are facing, the Most High God possesses all power, and is perfectly able to uproot every single one if you will simply place your trust in Him and His word.
Today I want to pray with you. Remember, anxiety and stress is NOT your inheritance. The God who overwhelms wants to overwhelm you with His perfect peace:
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3).
For way too long I have been underwhelmed by Your majesty. Lord, overwhelm me today with Your Presence, Your Glory, Your Goodness, Your Strength, and Your Power. Father, You are more than able to calm the storms in my life because You are the Prince of Peace, the Sar Shalom. And as I commit to trusting in You, I will enter supernatural rest and receive my inheritance of peace that passes all understanding. Thank you Lord that you are still I Am!
In Messiah Yeshua’s name,
